About Sarah
I use whichever medium best meets the student's needs, tutoring by phone, video call, or sending pre-recorded video solutions to problems.
I adapt my style to match the student. For example, after a basic explanation I try to do the minimum amount of speaking, and let the student talk out the problem as much as they can.. Often when I start explaining something, students can finish my sentences, sometimes requiring no more than a hint or two to solve a problem on their own.
I enjoy the challenge of simplifying concepts by explaining the logic behind the math, with the goal that the student will be able to apply that logic to future problems.
For example, to explain a complex math problem, I will make up similar problems with easier numbers and fewer steps, so the student can focus on learning the new concept without being overwhelmed by fractions, negative numbers, or too many steps. Then, once the new concept is understood, the student is often able to figure out more complicated problems on their own, which is my favorite part of the session!
I have a B.S. in Mathematics from Touro College, 5+ years of experience tutoring, and plenty of happy references available upon request.

I have worked with elementary, junior high, high school and college students. Some students wanted a thorough explanation of the material, while others were looking for a quick review to prepare for an exam. I focus on meeting the student's individual need and adapting as those needs change.
