About Joanna
I strongly believe that understanding concepts is more important to succeeding than simply learning and repeating a method to answer questions. While it is still possible to achieve good grades with the latter approach, it is much less satisfying and less enjoyable for the student. In addition to helping improve grades, I hope to foster a genuine enjoyment of physics/maths.

In a first lesson I identify the student's stronger and weaker areas in the subject, so as to better plan and focus future lessons. Unless specific questions are provided by the student, a typical lesson would start by discussing a topic and the key concepts, then going through some related questions together. Finally, going over the main points learnt during the lesson, and providing some questions for the student to look at before the next lesson. By reinforcing concepts through questions immediately after discussing them, they are more memorable and better understood. Default lesson length is 1hr, but really up to the student. I have previously taught maths and physics for a year at GCSE level, but am very comfortable with both the GCSE and A-level syllabus. I can teach pupils up to A-level, of ages 14-19.
