About Oscar

Background:

Oscar's musical journey began at the age of 12 when he discovered his love for the guitar. Under the mentorship of Mr. Jacky LAU, a highly acclaimed local guitarist, Oscar quickly honed his skills and started actively performing. Despite studying hospitality management, his true calling as a guitar teacher emerged at the young age of 18, when he started teaching as a freelance instructor.

In a bold move, Oscar decided to leave behind a promising career in the hotel industry and fully immerse himself in the world of music. Joining Guitar Concept at 23, he not only became an accomplished teacher and performer but also organized guitar concerts and invited renowned guitarists from around the world, including Don ROSS from Canada, Satoshi GOGO from Japan, and Pierre BENSUSAN from France, to promote and celebrate the guitar culture.

Oscar's insatiable thirst for knowledge led him to understand that music is a lifelong journey of development. Pursuing his second Bachelor's degree in Music Performance under the tutelage of Dr. Tariq HARB, Oscar embraced numerous master classes and music camps hosted by esteemed musicians like Dr. Judicial PERRORY, Dr. Thomas VILOTEAU, Dr. Marco SAN NICOLAS, and Dr. Ingrid RIOLLOT. His dedication and talent were recognized when he graduated with distinction in 2021, winning the 1st prize in the Hong Kong Music Talent Award Competition (Guitar Open Class) and the 3rd prize in the International Fringe Music Festival & Competition (Guitar Open Class).

What to Expect from the Lesson?

Oscar's teaching philosophy revolves around the human aspect of music. He understands that techniques are not one-size-fits-all. Recognizing that techniques vary based on physical differences such as hand size and height, he tailors his lessons to suit each student's specific needs. Rather than focusing solely on technical proficiency, Oscar encourages his students to delve into the interpretation of music, allowing them to find their own voice and express their emotions through the guitar. His teaching encompasses theory, cultural backgrounds, and an emphasis on reconnecting with both the body (techniques) and the mind (interpretation).

When learning with Oscar, you won't have the liberty to choose specific pieces to learn. His focus is on fostering a holistic development as a musician who plays the guitar, rather than merely dancing on the fingerboard. Oscar selects pieces that suit your level while challenging your techniques and understanding of music. Be prepared for an engaging and thought-provoking learning experience, as he encourages you to think and feel the music, transcending mere muscle memory.

Whether you prefer lessons at your location or online, Oscar has you covered. Having experience in recording studios and producing guitar performance videos, he utilizes a multi-angle camera setup during online lessons to provide clear visual demonstrations of techniques. With a high-quality condenser microphone capturing the rich and authentic sound of his guitar, you can be confident in receiving an immersive and engaging learning experience.

Join Oscar on your musical journey and unlock your full potential as a guitarist. Whether you're a beginner eager to embark on your musical path or an intermediate player looking to break through plateaus, Oscar's expertise and passion will guide you toward achieving your goals.
