About Rebecca
I have gained thorough tutoring experience as a head tutor of organic chemistry I and II through the Brown University Academic Tutoring Program. In this role, I conduct 1.5-hour tutoring sessions once a week with groups of five students each. While the tutoring program is traditionally in person, I was able to smoothly transition into virtual tutoring when the COVID-19 pandemic began. During the semester, I devote several hours to prepare for the lesson of the week. In each session, I always dedicate an amount of time to talking with my tutees, checking in with them about material other than the topic at hand. I find it imperative to get to know my tutees beyond the subject of what I may be teaching; if the tutees feel comfortable in the group, they will only feel more comfortable to ask any question. I devote the rest of the session to explaining the topics of the day and conducting problem-solving sessions, always making sure to allow the tutees to try out the material on their own.

I get to know what the tutee is struggling with the most, and then I have them send over examples of things we could go over together. In the meantime, I look for examples of my own that we could go over together in the session. In the session, I hope to explain all areas of concern pertaining to the topic and resolve any questions the tutee may have about the topic.
