About Jay
I love teaching STATs at Cal Poly, I have been their for 4 years now and it is a passion of mine. Typically I teach anywhere from 120 to 150 students every quarter at Cal Poly ranging from topics of descriptive statistics up to advanced predictive modeling. I received my undergraduate in mathematics and graduate degree in applied statistics from Villanova University (Go Cats).

I make statistics a more approachable and enjoyable subject by using interesting data sets and problems that they can relate to. A characteristic that I find to be essential for teaching is to be enthusiastic about the subject and to be able to engage the students with a lesson. Why should students have these same qualities about statistics if I do not express them myself? I am a passionate and charismatic person who loves statistics and it strongly shows when I teach. I teach in way that not only brings energy to motivate my students but also makes material relatable to them. I am an instructor that is conscious about different rates and styles of learning. Whether a student best learns visually, auditory, or kinesthetically I incorporate different methodologies and techniques in how I teach. The brilliance of an effective educator is make difficult topics easily understandable by focusing in on a student’s specific style of learning and I feel I have mastered this.
