About Salam
I am a licensed Civil Engineer with six years of professional experience in design and structural engineering, four years of experience as a part-time Civil Engineering review instructor, and nearly seven years of experience as a college instructor at different universities. My combined industry and academic experience allows me to bridge theoretical concepts with practical engineering applications, helping students understand not only how to solve problems but also why the concepts and principles work.
I am passionate about teaching and committed to helping students achieve their academic and professional goals. Beyond delivering lessons, I strive to make learning engaging, meaningful, and effective through practical examples, calculator techniques, mnemonics, storytelling, humor, and real-life applications. More importantly, I believe that teaching goes beyond sharing knowledge. It also means inspiring students, building their confidence, and encouraging them to keep moving forward, especially when they feel discouraged or begin to lose hope. My goal is not only to help students become competent Civil Engineers but also to remind them of their potential and empower them to believe in themselves, persevere through challenges, and achieve their dreams.

My teaching approach focuses on ensuring that students understand and master the concepts and principles of a specific topic. I begin by introducing and clearly explaining the concepts, demonstrating how they can be applied to solve problems. I provide various examples that illustrate different approaches and applications, allowing students to develop a deeper understanding. I also teach calculator techniques whenever applicable to help students solve problems efficiently and accurately. To make formula-based topics easier to remember, I use mnemonics, storytelling, humor, and encouraging real-life connections. For example, the formula for stress, σ=F/A, can be associated with the phrase “Faith over Action” (F/A), reminding students that having faith and taking action can help them overcome stress. This creative approach makes learning more engaging, memorable, and relatable. I then provide opportunities for students to solve problems independently to assess their understanding and ability to apply what they have learned. Overall, I emphasize conceptual understanding, analytical and critical thinking, practical application, and effective problem-solving while creating a positive and enjoyable learning environment. These teaching approach and lessons are effective for Civil engineering students in all level and also for the reviewees who will take the Civil Engineering Board Exam.
