About Patrick

I believe in language tuition being accessible to anyone. As a German and Spanish speaker, my goal is to share the enjoyment of language learning with as many people as possible. I've been learning German for 7 years and teaching for more than 3. I achieved an A in A-Level German and was awarded a scholarship in 2021/22 by the Goethe-Institut to take part in a CEFR C1 course. Prior to my move to Berlin, I pushed that level to a CEFR C2. Having finished studying 'Rechtswissenschaft' for two semesters (fully in German!) at the Freie Universität Berlin, I have returned for my final LLB year at the University of Warwick.

As someone who has been a student of German myself, I understand the challenges and will support you in reaching your goals.. My students have gone on to achieve the highest grades and I hope that can be the case for you too. I also aim to share my own experiences so you can feel closer to the culture in the German-speaking countries, and pick up on those little things natives say that aren't in the textbooks. Don't just take my word for it - read my reviews and recommendations and reach out to achieve what you want from German tuition!

About the lesson

I have helped students prepare for German exams in exam boards across the world, including the UK, Singapore and Hong Kong. I have also assisted in translation of documents from English to German and vice versa for university and work matters. While I can happily help you with this, for those who want to learn German for a different goal, I am here to help you as well!

Perfect! My son, Oskar, speaks some German and performed well in his German GCSEs, but he wants to continue improving his conversational German as well as his grammar. He enjoys his lessons with Patrick very much, finds him personable and extremely knowledgeable, and I can already see Oskar's confidence growing. We're both impressed with the quality of Patrick's teaching.

Perfect! Patrick is a friendly and approachable tutor with a relaxed style which is perfect for me as I was looking for conversational German mainly. Patrick answers questions and uses lots of examples which helps me and explains rules of grammar in a way that is easy to understand and remember. The lessons are flexible which is great for me as I work full time and have other commitments.

Patrick's response
Very attentive, and helped to show me when they struggled with what I spoke to them about. This made the learning experience easier for both parties.

Patrick is a superb German tutor. I have never been a natural at languages, but Patrick has made learning engaging, fun and most of all, easy. He has a gentle way of motivating, so that I always look forward to his sessions. They are helping me build my knowledge and understanding, and I no longer have that dread of learning a foreign language. That is some achievement, Patrick. Thank you. I wholly recommend him.

Patrick was my son's tutor last year 2025.
He assisted my son with A level German.

My son got a Grade A and was 4 marks off an A*.

Patrick has been instrumental in helping him to succeed in German.

With Patrick's, excellent oral knowledge and language skills, he helped my son Seán excel in his oral exam as well as the reading and writing papers.

Patrick was consistent in his weekly lessons and Seán developed a greater confidence in himself.

Patrick has a lovely manner and was at all times flexible, reliable and professional. He has an exceptional German ability which can only be absorbed by the students he teaches.

I would like to say that if you wish your child to succeed at AS/A level German, Patrick is the tutor to choose!

Patrick tutored me in German for a year while I was preparing for my A-level. He was always patient, clear, and encouraging, and really helped me improve my speaking practice and confidence. He was also very flexible, which made it much easier to fit lessons around my schedule. His friendly and approachable style made learning enjoyable, and I’d highly recommend him to anyone looking for extra support in German.

Find out more about Patrick

Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
I have no German heritage, I came to it by being inspired by my teachers and as such, I wish to do the same for any prospective students.
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
Thomas Müller (der Raumdeuter).
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?
Fernweh is always a classic.
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
Speakers of German have been on the decline within the UK for decades, and considering that our cultures' overlap in many ways, it is essential that people still continue to learn it as a foreign language here.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
People always say the grammar, but it's logic based and can be picked up largely quite quickly - I would actually say the amount of words that exist.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
I only started being interested in the language when I was forced to be on the front row in school, because I talked so much with my friend at the back of the class. That one paid off, I think.
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
When I went to Leipzig and Dresden in Summer 2023, it had been my first trip to a German speaking country since before the pandemic. It only occurred to me how far I had come when I was able to navigate everything exclusively in German. If I could manage it, trust me, anyone can.
What makes you a Superprof in language?
I have had dreams in German before, so it must be deep rooted in my brain by this point. For the rest of my credentials, only my reviews and experience can show that.
