About Stephen
Hi, my name is Stephen. I'm currently an Economics and Accounting student at UC Santa Barbara, and I was previously a mechanical engineering major. I've always been good at helping my friends through math, chemistry, english, history, really anything. I love soccer, I've played for almost 14 years and I’m currently working as a youth soccer coach. Aside from STEM subjects, I also tutor in English, reading essays and stuff like that. I have always been very good at editing my own essays, my main fault is having very long, comma-filled sentences, as you can probably tell. I sometimes get a little annoying when editing (even to myself) but I have not gotten less than an A on an essay since I started college, so I think its worth it in the end. I am a patient tutor and I absolutely love the moment where people go "oooooh now I get it!" and I love giving people the relief of understanding math and other topics. Also, I have a deep love for history and can most definitely help in that subject too. I hope we get along and I can help you through the same things that used to confuse me :)

Im going to use math as an example of my tutoring methods. I've spent countless hours helping my friends w math related subjects and I know that the best way to learn math is to watch someone perform the math, explain it slowly and walk them through every single piece of work involved. Then I let the student try similar problems until they feel comfortable with the math. I have always had a knack for simplifying and breaking down methods so that they make sense, because as we all know, some teacher blow through the lesson without really teaching WHY we do certain things, that’s where I come in. I'm not a teacher, I won't be brutally walk you through problems then get angry when you mess up (because we all mess up). What I will do is, if you mess up, I'll make sure to stop you and first see if you can spot the mistake, then if you don't I'll try to walk you through the problem and help you figure it out. I look forward to teaching you guys!
