About Miguel
I offer computer science tutoring in any area: from high school programming to university-level courses, or even for those who simply want to learn from scratch.
I hold a Master's degree in Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL). I was a teaching assistant in undergraduate and master's degree programs, where I supported students and guided them in building their own projects, and I worked for two years as a process automation analyst in a technology company.
I have worked with Java, Python, Rust, TypeScript, and databases (SQL). From the first program to data structures, object-oriented programming, and the basic subjects of a computer science course. I also teach computer science that isn't programming: spreadsheets, file organization, and understanding what the machine is actually doing.
I also support those who are learning on their own and have gotten stuck: not knowing where to start, following tutorials without understanding what they are copying, or having an idea and not being able to translate it into a real application.
The first consultation is free and serves to understand where you are and where you need to go.

I start by assessing where the person is at. Without that, I don't know what I can assume they know, and in computer science, it's easy to spend months building on a foundation that doesn't exist.
After that, the concepts. In computer science, knowing what you're doing is more important than knowing how to write, and this applies to both those who have never programmed and those who already do: writing comes easier later. It's like learning a new language, where the foundations are what allow everything else.
Only then do we move on to the practical side, and that's where we write serious code.
When the difficulty is a specific subject, I work on the course syllabus and projects, because that's where the material appears in the form that will be evaluated. When it's a personal project, I work on the project itself.
Whenever requested, I provide an update: what's improving, what's not yet improved, and what can be done between classes.
