About Umair
I am a professional sound engineer, music producer and musician with many years of experience working with Cubase in real-world recording and production environments.
I hold a BA in Music and a BSc in Sound Technology, and my professional work includes recording and mixing artists, running studio sessions, live sound engineering and producing my own music. This means I can teach not only how Cubase works, but how it is used practically to take a project from the initial recording stage through to a finished mix.
As a musician myself, I understand that learning music technology can sometimes feel overwhelming. My approach is friendly, patient and down-to-earth, and I aim to explain technical concepts in a way that makes sense rather than relying on unnecessary jargon.
Cubase has been at the centre of my recording and production work for many years, and I particularly enjoy helping people overcome the gap between knowing the basic functions of a DAW and feeling genuinely confident using it to create music.
Whether you're completely new to Cubase, recording your own music at home, or already have experience and want to develop your production and mixing skills, I'll tailor the lessons around your existing knowledge, musical interests and goals.

My Cubase lessons are practical, flexible and tailored to what you want to achieve. Rather than following a rigid syllabus, I can work with you directly on your own music and projects, helping you understand not just how to use Cubase, but how to develop an efficient recording, editing and mixing workflow.
Lessons can cover everything from setting up your first Cubase project through to more advanced recording and production techniques, including audio and MIDI recording, editing, comping, routing, EQ, compression, effects, automation, mixing and preparing a finished track.
If you're already working on a project, you're welcome to bring it to the lesson and we can work through it together. I believe this is often the best way to learn, as you can immediately apply new techniques to your own music and solve the specific problems you're encountering.
A typical lesson is 60 minutes and takes place online using screen sharing, so I can demonstrate techniques in Cubase and guide you through them on your own system.
I have a BA in Music and a BSc in Sound Technology, alongside extensive practical experience as a recording, mixing and live sound engineer. I regularly work with musicians and bands in professional recording and live environments, so my teaching is grounded in real-world experience rather than simply explaining the features of the software.
Lessons are suitable for adults of all abilities, from complete beginners opening Cubase for the first time to experienced users who want to improve their recording, editing, mixing or workflow. I can also help musicians who have been teaching themselves Cubase but feel they've reached a point where personalised guidance would help them progress.
