My approach to tutoring revolves around fostering understanding and engagement. Here's how I typically structure my teaching:
Techniques and Teaching Methodology
I emphasize active learning, encouraging students to ask questions and think critically about the material. I use:
Problem-Solving: Presenting practical problems and guiding students step-by-step through the process to enhance their analytical skills.
Conceptual Clarity: Breaking down complex concepts into simpler parts, using relatable examples to ensure understanding.
Tailored Sessions: I adjust my approach depending on the student’s learning style—visual learners may benefit from diagrams, while kinesthetic learners engage better with hands-on exercises.
Interactive Discussions: Rather than lecturing, I engage students in discussions, prompting them to explore topics and discover answers themselves.
Typical Lesson Length
A lesson typically lasts between 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the topic and the student’s attention span. This allows for sufficient time to cover key concepts and practice without overwhelming the student.
Qualifications/Experience
I have experience teaching peers at university and have been an assistant teacher of the AP curriculum. My background in mathematics and statistics from UNSW gives me a solid foundation in STEM subjects, and I have also written reports and conducted research using statistical distributions.
Who My Lessons Are For
My lessons are typically aimed at:
High school and university students studying mathematics, statistics, and physics.
Students preparing for exams (IB, high school finals, university-level tests).
Age group: 6 to 16 years, though I am flexible depending on the student's needs.
I aim to help students not just pass exams but develop a deeper understanding of the subjects they study.
