About Oliver
As a full-time teacher myself I am passionate both about teaching in general and in particular about my subject, Economics. I have taught thousands of students during my time as a teacher and have thrived on the challenge of helping them improve their understanding and examination performance. In terms of my subject I love to extend my knowledge and am a regular reader of The Economist, The Financial Times and Moneyweek.

I am a full-time Economics teacher with 23 years of teaching experience both in the U.K and internationally, teaching across a range of specifications. I have also had many years of experience as a private tutor teaching well in excess of 750 hours across different platforms. For the last 10 years, I have been teaching at one of the highest achieving sixth form colleges in the country, Greenhead College in Huddersfield. We pride ourselves not only in the excellent results we achieve ( 82% achieved A*-B in Economics compared to National average of 58%) but also in the value-added scores attained by our students. My own classes had over 50% of students achieving A*/A grades with a value added score of 2. We teach the Edexcel A specification and have several examiners in our department regularly sharing knowledge on how students can improve their exam performance. I have also have several years of recent experience as an examiner for Edexcel Economics across the 3 exam papers. I believe that given self-belief students can make remarkable progress and I see the role of the tutor as someone who can facilitate that. In as much I use lots of real-world examples in my teaching and aim to make the experience enjoyable through an interactive approach. The typical length of a lesson I give is one hour.

Perfect! We had a very positive first lesson with Oliver. He quickly identified the areas my daughter needs to improve, particularly exam technique, developing analysis, application and evaluation. He explained clearly how to structure and develop higher-mark answers and encouraged her to think through each step rather than simply giving her the answer. He is very knowledgeable

Perfect! Oliver is a fantastic and supportive A-level Economics tutor. Through his calm approach and consistent support, my daughter has gone from having low self-confidence (started in Year 12) to feeling highly confident and genuinely enjoying the subject . She is achieving grades at the higher end and will be sitting her A-level exams in a few weeks.
He was incredibly understanding of her needs and struggles when she first started Economics tuition. Her school teacher had skimmed over the foundational aspects of the subject, despite her not having studied it at GCSE, and the class was moving at a fast pace. As a result, she struggled to access the content.
With Oliver’s structured explanations and use of a whiteboard, she has gradually developed both the knowledge and essay skills to achieve the higher marks. Oliver has been incredibly helpful and lovely to learn from. He creates such a calm and supportive environment, and it's so lovely to be able to go over content and questions as many times as I needed to feel perfectly secure and confident. His exam technique tips are so helpful too and I am super grateful for all his help! I would highly recommend Oliver to anyone who is struggling with economics, or even just wants some extra support and space to access the highest grades at their own pace.

Oliver taught me A-Level Economics during the pandemic and was a fantastic teacher. He was extremely adaptable in the pandemic, quickly switching between online lessons and in-person lessons and still keeping the class engaged, lessons exciting and helping us whenever possible. Oliver teaches the theory in detail but supplements this with real-world examples to allow students to apply this knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of the theory. I would recommend Oliver to anyone looking to improve their Economics grades!
Oliver is an experienced, enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher of Economics. He provides lots of support to his students and is great at breaking down tricky topics and using real life examples to illustrate economic concepts. As his colleague of 4 years, I have observed many of his lessons which have been very engaging. He is diligent, approachable, and has a good relationship with his students who speak very highly of him.
