About Shannon
I am a second-year mechanical engineering student at UW with a 3.95 GPA. I have taken the introductory physics series (Mechanics, Electromagnetism, and Waves, Light, and Heat) and the calculus series. I have some experience tutoring in high school as well as some other teaching experience as a ski instructor. I love learning and I love teaching and I would love to help students succeed in subjects that can be challenging.

I believe that 70% of solving a problem is finding the right approach, which can be tricky. Practicing skills/topics until you can solve problems "from scratch" (i.e. without hints or referencing notes) is the key to understanding and being able to succeed during exams/future classes. In a typical lesson, I ask students to bring questions from their class that they found tricky or confusing. I will ask them to walk me through their approach, offering hints/explanations/corrections when needed until they understand how to solve the problem. Later in the lesson, I will return to a similar question to check that they really understand the topic and will be able to apply it later on. I tutor any/all physics offered in high school (up through AP Physics 2) as well as trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus (including AP). If you are looking to improve your understanding, test scores, or simply need homework help in these areas, please reach out to me!
