About Matilda
My name is Matilda, I'm 21 years old and live in Greater Manchester! Having recently graduated, I currently work as a theatre technician and am in the process of applying to PGCE courses starting September 2026.
English is not just about passing exams; it’s about learning how to think critically, communicate clearly and understand the world more deeply. In a time where young people are constantly exposed to media, persuasive language and complex information, being able to analyse and question texts confidently is essential.
I want to help students realise that literature is not intimidating or inaccessible. With the right guidance, texts can become engaging and relevant, even if the exams might seem daunting and/or boring!
Outside of work, I enjoy climbing, gaming and, predictably, reading!

My tutoring approach is centred on building confidence and improving critical thinking skills. I am flexible in my lesson structure to suit each student's needs and learning style, focusing on guided analysis, active discussion and close reading to encourage students to understand the texts and what the exam board is asking of them. Through scaffolded tasks, regular feedback and engaging conversation, I aim to help students make meaningful connections between their examined work and the world around them. I highlight the importance of English and media literacy alongside my tutoring of the core curriculum content.
Within either a 60 minute or 90 minute lesson, I create space for teaching, practice and feedback. I also offer exam preparation sessions and paper reviews.
I hold a 2:1 in English and Drama from the University of Exeter, as well as three A*s in English Literature, English Language and Psychology A-Level. Alongside my degree, I have significant leadership and mentoring experience through theatre production roles and voluntary youth work, where I supported and guided peers and younger participants in developing skills and confidence.
I offer lessons for KS3, GCSE and A-Level students in English Literature and English Language. I can support students working towards exam boards such as AQA, Edexcel and OCR, as well as those looking to build general literacy skills, essay-writing confidence and critical analysis techniques
