I am an enthusiastic and hard-working maths teacher. I have been teaching mathematics for 8 years and I am also a GCSE examiner. Hello, I'm Heather! With 8 years of teaching experience, I currently work in a grammar school and as an GCSE examiner but have previously held the position of Head of Key Stage 3 Maths. I hold a First-Class Honours BEd in Primary Education with a Maths Specialism and have since transitioned to secondary teaching, where I’ve developed a deep passion for supporting students in their mathematical journeys.
My approach is student-centred. Together, we will reflect on any previous assessments identifying areas for development and also strengths. I will then devise a plan with the student to focus on weaker areas to ensure time is spent efficiently in lessons. However, this is completely adaptable and if students need to cover something they are learning in school or revise for an upcoming assessment, this will take precedence to help improve the students' confidence.
Every lesson is different because every student is different. Some pupils need a starter to revise lots of different areas of maths whereas other pupils need that time dedicated to in depth learning instead where perhaps they need more practice on fundamentals to better prepare them for the work in class. The pace of the lesson is completely dictated by the pupils' ability but I ensure that the pupil has seen the topic in a variety of contexts and asked in different ways to ensure a depth of understanding before progressing. Perfect! Heather was brilliant in finding out my weaker areas in math and finding ways to build my confidence in learning how to complete those questions.
Heather made it easy for me to understand and helped me find ways to remember little tricks.

Perfect! My son had missed half of year 10 through illness and was predicted for a grade 5 in GCSE maths. He started weekly tutoring with Heather at the start of year 11 and ultimately achieved a grade 8. This would not have been possible without Heather.
