About Kathryn
I'm Kate: a qualified English teacher with over 25 years of secondary teaching experience and a proven track record of exam success. I'm happy to work with students who need that little bit extra to fly and with those who need intensive support, working up from key literacy skills to IB and A level. I'm currently teaching secondary age students who need to learn outside of mainstream due to complex physical and mental health needs. I have considerable examiner experience at GCSE and A level in addition to classroom practice. A Russell Group graduate, I am articulate, conscientious and constantly driven to achieve the best for the individual. I also have a keen sense of humour - an invaluable asset in any form of teaching or tuition. I am told that my passion for the subject communicates itself to others. Mrs Harris taught me English throughout secondary school. In many ways she taught me to read. Before her I loved books but only read them very superficially. Her exuberance and enthusiasm for her subject encouraged me to read books more deeply, in a nuanced way. Her classes were always exciting and she always knew how to bring out the best in every student. Because of her I wanted to be - and am - a teacher, in the hope of inspiring and supporting students of my own in the same way. I also credit her with building my self-esteem greatly: she was always keen to engage us in conversation on the subject, we truly believed that we were insightful, academic and academic and as a result we became each of those things. Ultimately, her students always have true academic integrity and - every bit as importantly - a great fondness for her once they graduate from her.
English was always my favourite subject, but it wasn't until I was 12 years old and Mrs Harris set us the task of writing a novel over the summer holidays, that I realised how much I loved writing too.
Mrs Harris was - and still is - an inspirational teacher. It was her English lessons that I looked forward to above all others, and her teaching method (different to anyone else's in that she had passion for her subject that came across and was somewhat infectious) that made it all the more interesting.
I can honestly say that I am who I am today because of Mrs Harris. Her love of English gave me a deeper love of the subject, and I am now a freelance copywriter who dabbles in fiction.
Mrs Harris is the kind of teacher all schools should have, and be proud of.Kathy is an inspirational teacher. She can adapt her style to suit a range of pupils, from those who are naturally driven and engaged to those who need more encouragement and support. She ignited my passion for language and literature, one that has carried me far beyond academic study and continues to benefit me in working life. I cannot recommend her highly enough - she is one of the best teachers I have ever had.
