About Craig
I have a lot of experience working with students in a variety of different contexts. Some of these include:
Teaching the English Literature IGCSE, where my students achieved a 100% pass rate, including 30% A - A* pass rate.
Teaching English as a Second Language at IGCSE, where I broke records for students passing the course at my school two years in a row.
Teaching the English First Language IGCSE to students of varying ability levels.
Having previously taught and tutored students in the UK who have been taking their GCSEs with WJEC, AQA and EdExcel, and helping some students go from ungraded to a passing grade, or maintain the high grades that they have had and help prepare them for future study beyond their GCSEs.
Teaching the WJEC English Literature GCSE to students who went on to achieve both passing grades and top marks.
Working with students at KS3 to improve their general reading, writing, and speaking and listening skills. I have often worked with students who want to improve their creativity, those who come from an ESL background, or students who have become unmotivated due to their school environment - success cannot always be measured in attainment, as sometimes increased motivation and enjoyment of the subject is the first stop on the road to lifelong learning!
Tutoring to help students prepare for the 11+ exams many schools require KS2 students to take.
Online tutoring of adults who are ESL (I am happy to tutor anyone, but a grasp of some English is required as I am not multilingual - I wish I was!).
Online tutoring in conversational and business English.
Providing support to teachers looking to embed English skills into their own subjects, such as primary teachers or staff on long-term cover in an unfamiliar subject.
I have worked in a wide variety of different educational institutions, such as oversubscribed high schools in towns and cities throughout the UK, academies, private fee paying schools in both the UK and abroad, exclusion units, with students that have left mainstream education, one-on-one in students’ homes, and both over Skype and other platforms when teaching both local and international students.

The focus of my tuition sessions is always on the student: What are their needs and goals? What is the best way for us to achieve them? How can I craft an experience that they will enjoy whilst giving us the outcomes that we want? I believe that all teaching is a collaboration between both student and teacher. The teacher needs to build a positive, friendly working relationship with the student, being aware of their interests and also push them beyond them, whilst the student needs to trust their teacher and make the most of the opportunities that are presented to them.

I charge between £15 and £25 a hour, depending on the circumstances, time of the tuition session and what extra work is needed outside of tuition sessions to support the student. For example, teaching a KS3 student between 4pm and 9pm GMT to help with their general English skills and engagement in the lessons would be £15 as there is little preparation work necessary as I have the knowledge and resources to hand. Meanwhile, teaching an international student A-Level Literature between 1am and 5am on a Sunday would be £25 as I would need to do a little extra research, create some new resources personalised to the needs of the student, and would likely do essay marking outside of the tuition sessions as well as providing feedback within them.
