About Wes
Hi. My name is Wes. I'm Australian. I'm a university graduate with 21 years international teaching experience in universities and language schools in 6 countries. My key area of interest is writing and reading. I focus on the strategies of these skills areas and offer tailored lessons to help students overcome weaknesses. In particular, I work with final year high school students and fresher university students to help them overcome the jump between the two styles of education. Additionally, I work with adult ESL students. Additionally, I work with students to improve their general conversation skills.

I met Prof. Wesley in my ENG1001 and ENG1002 classes. My first impression of him was that he might be a really stressful person, but when I got to know him, I learned that he’s an incredibly chill professor who knows when to stress to motivate you to do your best and when to relax. He’s also incredibly aware of each student's situation in his class and knows how to tailor his style of teaching, speaking to each of them to bring out the best from everyone accordingly.
Prof. Wesely LOCKHART has been teaching English courses at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen for more than ten years. I have known him since I was an undergraduate student studying at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Back then, Wes taught my English class for Translation Major and a summer course on extensive readings.
Through the course, I could see his passion for teaching. He cares not only about the academic performances of his students but also their feelings about the course and his teaching. This is particularly impressive for year 1 students who have just entered university. In his courses, we have learned not only the professional use of English as an academic language but also how to study in university, and more importantly, how to find your passion in the future.
Wes also displays his professionalism in course design. Through the summer course of extensive reading, he has designed a fruitful course outline. We have read classical English novels such as those from Ernest Hemingway, and many modern writers, including translated works such as novels written by Haruki Murakami. Reading different writers expanded my horizon on English, which enabled me to compare how to describe a similar scenario from different perspectives and different styles.
Wes is also helpful in providing useful resources. Through his courses, he has provided many online resources for listening, reading, and writing practices. The online resources have helped me to learn effectively during my spare time.
In conclusion, I am confident that Wes will be a professional, enthusiastic, and helpful teacher in SuperProf. It would be lucky for students who can enroll in his course. I hereby strongly recommend Prof. Wes LOCKHART to be one of your professors. If you ever get the chance to take a class with Wes, take it.
Wes is a really nice professor who is always willing to help. My classmates and I all agree that he's super adorable and very approachable — if you ask him questions, he'll respond patiently, point out where you're going wrong, and throw in little jokes that honestly make the whole experience a lot more enjoyable. That's just part of who he is.
For my personal experience: once I told Wes about my struggles with listening and speaking, and he generously shared helpful suggestions and gave me encouragement that actually meant something. During group discussion practice, I was fumbling for words and struggling to get my thoughts out. But after class, Wes came to find me — he said he'd noticed a real improvement in my speaking, and specifically pointed out that my tone, which had been flat in an earlier presentation, had shown significant progress. He also acknowledged my efforts to move away from relying on scripts, and told me: "Keep going. Keep working." 🥹
Even after the course ended, we've stayed in touch. Once I wrote an English short story and asked for suggestions — he actually read it carefully and shared his thoughts generously. We also talked once about how to start a deep conversation with someone, because at the time I found myself only able to have that kind of talk with an AI. That conversation stuck with me.
Wes is such a supportive and kind-hearted professor, and he really helped build my confidence. Thank him so much!If you ever get the chance to take a class with Wes, take it.
