About Jessica
I am a friendly and approachable qualified secondary school teacher with a passion for helping young people to understand and engage with mathematics. Though I no longer work in schools, I taught for over 5 years across a range of ages and attainment levels. Because of this, I have a deep knowledge of the maths curriculum and how to teach topics in a way that students can relate to and understand. I am really interested in the way that people learn maths, and keep up to date with the relevant academic literature to continually develop my teaching skills.

I teach in a way which develops conceptual understanding of mathematics rather than rote learning - sometimes called mastery. I use effective and innovative teaching methods which promote interest in the topics that are being learnt, making connections with the real world where appropriate. My teaching strategies and instruction help students to see the relationships between different areas of maths, to further strength their understanding. The effect of this that students not only develop their understanding, but also their confidence and enjoyment of maths.
I am happy to tailor sessions to the tutee or parent's wishes. Typically my tutoring sessions last an hour but if that isn't possible I can be flexible with timings.
I have experience working with a range of ages and abilities and am skilled at adapting my teaching to the strengths and needs of the student.
