About Omar
I am a 3rd-year college student and researcher who is majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Biology. The classes that student is struggling in are classes that I have personally taken in high school and college where I have the ability to teach it. I am able to explain topics at a level that young students can understand and relate to. Trust me, there is a huge difference in teaching style between a Ph.D. professor or grown adult vs another student who mastered the subject and can teach it to you, and I can do that.
The main thing I enjoy when helping others is to see the results of one grasping and learning the subject first hand whether it is an improvement in test grades and class averages. It shows that I am played an integral part of the student's success and that makes me want to help him/her more. I love tutoring science and math courses because that is where most students struggle in and that allows me to be a valuable helping hand.
I have been a freelance tutor in my community for 4 years where I had students come over to my house and I would tutor them K-12 levels of math, science, and writing. I was also a general chemistry lecture and lab teacher's assistant where I would help college students with general chemistry coursework. I am also a researcher at VCU's Medical School where I submitted work for publishing regarding lung cancer treatment and currently on a new research team dealing with medical implants.
The coursework I am well-versed include K-12 Chemistry and Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Algebra I, II and Calculus II or BC, and Writing

Before the first meeting, I would ask the student their strengths and weaknesses of the topic at hand. For the weaknesses, I would bring out my personal notes from my classes to assist and create problems for them. For strengths, I would find problems that the student may give me or I can make and test them on those topics. Every meeting, I would start out with problems on topics they learned in the previous session and evaluate if the student is learning and succeeding. If not, other methods would be used.
I work with high school and college students
Two pieces of advice I would give students is to first find someone who you can relate and have a connection with, most likely someone close to your age. The reason being is studies has been shown that cross-age mentoring brings significant more results in tutoring and learning have given that it is someone who has recently been in your shoes and you can relate more. Another one is consistency. I am a tutor that will put effort into keeping a consistent effort with helping the student learn because, without consistency, it is least likely one would retain the information and perform well.

I started off with a D in Chemistry at Maggie Walker and it didn't improve after my second exam even though I felt like I was doing everything right. My parents and I decided that a tutor might be the best option. I was hesitant going in, but it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Omar was very caring and patient with me and was able to help me help myself instead of just showing me how to solve problems. Not only was I able to turn my D into an A by the end of the semester, but he helped me learn valuable study strategies that I've been able to apply to even harder classes like Physics. I wholeheartedly recommend Omar to anyone who is struggling with a class.
Omar is an excellent tutor. I got help from him for chemistry and calculus and received an A in both classes. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience and I highly recommend coming to him for help!
It was really helpful. Not only did I understand the concepts and material I was struggling with, but I ended up enjoying the material I was learning. He really helped me with calculus.
