About Xin
Graduated with a Ph.D. degree from the University of Oxford, I have over 12 years experience teaching Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese to college students in the UK and USA, over 6 years experience tutoring Chinese Art, Archaeology, Chinese History, Chinese Culture and Traditional Chinese Architecture at university and museums, and more than 14 years experience translating, proof-reading and editing professional texts between English/Chinese/Cantonese for both academic institutions and commercial corporations. The institutions that I have worked for include, to name a few, the Ashmolean Museum (UK), the British Museum (UK), the History of Art faculty of University of Oxford (UK), the T.T.S.s.r.l. Private School of Languages (Italy), and the East View Press (USA). My caring, considerate and responsible nature of personality, and my outstanding ability in observing and listening to others with extended patience, has made me a very popular tutor among my students.
I can give one-on-one tutorials, provide suggestions and revisions on homework/essay writing, supervise graduate student's dissertation, and supervise interns on hands-on projects.
As a mother of two young daughters who are excellent early speakers of Mandarin, I also give small-group or one-on-one tutorials to young children (2-12 yrs) who are expected by parents to understand, listen, speak and write Chinese as well as getting to know and love Chinese history and culture.
In addition, I provide consulting/collection management services on Chinese art and antiques to private collectors, antique lovers, fiction writers, filmmakers etc. I also give private tours to museums, galleries, and pre-sale shows within NYC.
I'd love to provide you more details regarding my Curriculum Vitae upon request. Just let me know how I can help!
Teaching is my dream career since childhood when I taught Mandarin to the sparrows tweeting around on the porch. I love how I manage to deliver the knowledge that I know in the ways that my students could easily and clearly get. Meanwhile students can always amaze me with their talented, creative thoughts and ideas, which keeps my mind fresh and recharged. Every student is different, and I can always find the specific way to teach accordingly - a challenge indeed, but that is exactly what always makes me excited and passionate in teaching!
