Whether it be turning around to re-see your art or different methods on how to look at an object, she was the best! She made an impact on my art forever! One of the best teacher's I've ever had. Not only does she teach you technique in a comprehensive, easily digestible way, she also gives you motivation to believe in yourself and the confidence to keep developing your skill even when you think you can't. She is a hands-on teacher that will not let you get away with being lazy, I have no doubt she can teach anyone to paint. Take any lessons she offers, you will not regret it!

I started my drawing and painting class my sophomore year of high school with Ms. Payne all the way through my junior year to AP Art and it was such a wonderful experience. She’s the first teacher that had ever taught me to actually draw and paint better. I loved and will always cherish this experience I’ve had with Ms. Payne.

Debra was patient kind and really took the time to show me how to do what I was trying to draw. She created a great environment for creativity to flow through. Everyone I know who had her absolutely loves her as well.

Mrs. Payne takes time to work one on one with you and is able to help you fix your own problems instead of just doing it for you. She teaches the basics and fundamentals so they are easy to understand and build off of.

She had a lot of knowledge to draw from. She always offered encouragement and honest evaluations. I took every class she offered in high school.

Everything I know about drawing and painting on a higher level is because of Mrs. Payne, and much of what I learned in college art classes didn’t come close to all that she had already taught me. There is this widely held assumption that people are either artists or they aren’t, but I’ve seen her transform previously perceived “artistically challenged” students into incredible artists in just one course. There is no one else I would recommend.

Mrs. Payne knows her stuff! She's a tough love kinda person, and that's what my high school artist attitude needed at the time. Once I opened up and started to absorb her teachings instead of resisting them, I realized she was extremely knowledgeable about drawing and painting, among other related areas, and she is a fantastic artist and teacher. I feel privileged to have studied under her for 3 years, and that I was allowed to assist as a teacher's aid for her as a senior. I'm a much better artist because of techniques I learned from Mrs. Payne, and I still utilize many of them to this day as a part time free-lance artist.

Amazing teacher, taught me all the foundations of art with art history aligned. Exploration of all mediums with lessons where we would learn hands on color mixing, and manipulation of the medium to apply in future artworks. I would take class from Debra Payne even as an adult and an art teacher myself, her expertise and guidance is by far the best I’ve ever had in all of my education.
