About Trent
Music is my passion and has been for more than 30 years. I have been active in the music industry for many years as both a performer and a producer. I can read and write music, and I have composed several percussion instrumental movements. You will be hard-pressed to find another drummer as enthusiastic as I am.
I can work with all levels of learners, from the most novice of beginners to even the most arduous of artisan performers. I have a very keen ear for drumming and I have been able to work with some of the best drummers in the world (in my opinion and possibly others as well). I do not judge anyone's ability to play an instrument. We all had to learn at some point. The saying is "do what you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life", well, that's very true. I absolutely love music and teaching it as well.
My friend needed a percussion teacher at his school district, and the school refused to hire another full-time teacher. He contacted me, and I had to go through the full interview process and as well as a performance interview. The school principal and superintendent ultimately gave me the contract, and I was hooked on teaching from that point on. I have been teaching in some capacity since 2000.
My education started formally in a public school in 1990 and continued through 1996. My education continued in college from 1996 to 1998. I have taught at several school districts, but usually as a part-time instructor or as a specialized tutor. My students have learned most of the percussion instruments that are commonly found in public schools.

My first lesson is along the lines of a typical job interview, but not just one-sided. I have something to teach, and I should be able to match what you are looking for. On the flip side, I am looking for worthy students that will practice their instrument when I am not around. I teach those that want to learn.
I have worked with students as young as nine years old, all the way to drummers in their late 60's. My students are from the local area, mostly, but some others are online. ALL of my students are expected to practice and keep their talents polished. I make it clear that I will not continue lessons with someone that cannot take the time to practice on their own time.
Ask questions about the "teacher". Have them play the instrument and explain their methods about how and why they play in their style. Research their answers to see if they are just spouting out something they learned on youtube, or are they the real deal and have formal training?
My live-streaming is something relatively new and I have found it to be a wonderful avenue for reaching a much wider and more diverse audience. I am investing more in my private studio to make my videos of a higher quality and more engaging.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How much of a desire do you have to learn that instrument? Are you trying to impress a friend, or do you really want to learn something new and make it a part of your life? Learning music is similar to learning a new language. Qualified teachers, such as myself, have formal training and can teach you how to read music and write it as well. Self-taught teachers usually do not have the skill-set to teach key signatures, time signatures, clef music (bass or treble), or theory. Make sure you want this and make doubly sure the teacher can teach you what you're looking to learn.
