About Angie
I began working towards my teacher licensure after working in college admissions for a few years. I discovered my passion for helping students and decided high school was the best fit for me.
I hold a bachelors degree in English, a masters degree in leadership, and have received my teacher credentials. I am licensed by the state of indiana in English grades 5-12.

When beginning work with a new student, first I assess where they are at skill-wise. Once I have determined their level of ability, then we get to work on basics like grammar and vocabulary to strengthen foundational skills. Once we have a good start on foundations, we move towards more specific skills that need attention.
I have worked with below grade level, on grade level, and above grade level students.
My advice would be to look for someone who is willing to meet the student where they are, and help them build their skills with practice and confidence. Foundational skills are at the core of so much of what we do in the classroom.
A recent event I am fond of actually happened in my classroom while studying Shakespeare. My students were tasked with making pop songs into sonnets- not an easy task! The entire class really got into the lesson and created some amazing sonnets from popular music.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should be honest and detailed. Instead of stating they don't understand, be specific about what is not understood. Ask for the lesson to be explained in a different way, or ask for an example.
