About Lacey

With my Bachelor's degree in English Teaching, I'm excited and prepared to help you excel in your language arts classes. I have experience in the classroom as a public school teacher and as an ACT instructor.

I love helping students become independent learners. There's nothing quite like that moment when the lightbulb goes off in their head and everything clicks.

As a teenage volunteer camp couselor I found a lot of satisfaction in helping my campers work through problems both as individuals and as a team. That lead me to a teaching major where I could learn how to best support youth through their development.

I recieved a Bachelor's degree in English Teaching with relevant coursework in multicultural education, Shakespeare, American and British literature, short story, grammar and writing, adolescent literature, etc. I have in-class experience teaching grade 9 English and Honors English. I also worked as English instructor for and ACT prep course for first generation college applicants.

About the lesson

It's important to first pinpoint where the student is struggling. It's easy to feel overwhelmed when trying to improve your schoolwork because there are so many factors that contribute to a single course or assignment. If we can identify the biggest challenge we can focus our energy into working on what will have the greatest impact on a student's understanding and performance. After we set some goals I can provide guidance, resources and additional instruction to students based on their individual needs.

I've worked with students of a variety of ages as a substitute teacher but my primary experience is in grade 7-9. My classes ranged from inclusion classes with a special education co-teacher to honors classes. I also worked as an ACT instructor for a program called Summer of Academic Refinement which helped prospective college students of diverse backgrounds prepare for the college with campus visits and ACT preparation classes.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Try to be specific about what you need help with. Ask yourself: "Is there a pattern to what I'm getting marked down on?" or "What parts of an assignment/class am I struggling with?"
