About Sara
I seek to make personal connections with the students I work with. I frequently check up on how my students are doing, even outside of how their homework is going. I always miss my students once they no longer need my help.
I absolutely love getting to see the learning process in my students. Witnessing the moment where everything clicks in their head gives me so much joy! I also love sharing my passion for academics with others and getting to "nerd out" over my favorite things in school.
I was offered a position as a tutor at MSCC at the end of my freshman year. I continued tutoring throughout the rest of high school and picked up a few tutoring jobs.
I have not had much formal training, but I have been informally tutoring my two younger brothers since the time they were in Kindergarten. I also was a tutor in my high school's Math and Science Collaboration Center (MSCC), which required a bit of training.

I typically go over what they have trouble with, which topics may need review, and what help they want the most. I also try to adapt my tutoring style to match each student's needs. Additionally, I speak with the parents and ask if the student has any special needs or other things that may help me get to know their child a bit better.
I have worked with motivated students who have a bit of trouble understanding their teachers' learning styles. Quite a few of those students also have some learning differences, such as ADHD or verbal processing disorders.
It is not always helpful to have a tutor who is talented in that subject area; you should make sure that they are good at explaining things and have a decent understanding of your skill level.
