About Alana
Hello! My name is Alana and I'm a fourth-year medical student currently living in Napa before my residency in internal medicine begins. I am a graduate of UC Berkeley with a major in Public Health and Infectious Disease. I will graduate with my MD in May 2020 I have over 12 years of experience tutoring many subjects with an emphasis on writing, Biology, Algebra, Science, standardized exams, and Spanish.
I genuinely enjoy teaching and have incorporated tutoring into my schedule during high school, college, and medical school. As a tutor, I am empathetic and patient. I will hone in on a student's style of learning quickly and tailor lessons accordingly. I have extensive experience tutoring over Skype/Zoom and other online teaching platforms. I have had successful outcomes in the past (an average increase of 1 full letter grade). I have experience in coaching and editing college admission essays and cover letters for jobs. I have also tutored most subjects of the MCAT and the Step 1 medical licensing exam
Since graduating from UC Berkeley, I have been involved in biomedical research focused on cholera and malaria. My hobbies including playing tennis and reading. I am a fun-loving and optimistic person and I also enjoy biking, skiing, and spending time with my family.
I scored in the top 95th percentile on the national medical licensing exams and am great at teaching test-taking strategies. I have finished my clinical work from medical school early this quarter and have lots of availability to tutor before the start of residency in July.
