About Crystal
Hello! My name is Ms. Crystal and for a little over two years, I have worked as an Instructional Assistant at Ella Baker elementary in Redmond, Washington. I have experience tutoring English Language Learners.
I have a TESOL certification (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages). I also hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies with a focus on Communications and Writing.
Teaching is my passion. During the pandemic, I have met with students remotely on Microsoft Teams, providing consistency and a sense of comfort. I am happy to use any video classroom platform necessary to reach my students.
To sum it up, my proclivity for working with young students and my enthusiasm for the work makes me an excellent candidate as your next remote learning teacher.
I first began teaching at my daughter's Cooperative Preschool. I had the wonderful opportunity to work with children and their families and I fell in love with teaching. A few years later, I was hired to work at my local elementary school as an Instructional Assistant where I worked for over two years.
I hold a TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages) certification. I also have experience working with elementary school students as well as Kindergarten English Language Learners. I hold a BS in Communications.

When working with a new student, the most important aspect of the entire process is building a rapport. Up to now, students have faced individual challenges with various topics, so the importance of instilling confidence in them before any tutoring begins is essential to their success. Therefore, it is important prior to scheduling sessions, I like to meet with the student and/or their grown ups. We work together to build their specialized plan of action. Students create a detailed description of their current challenges and their desired outcomes. Next, we come up with a set of learning targets and how to implement the plan of action appropriately in order to accomplish said goals. This plan depends on the current needs of the student, but many plans include some sort of accommodation to pre and post-session communication in order to track progress.
I have worked with Kindergarten English Language Learners, First grade writing students, Third grade reading students, in addition to all K-5th grade students in small groups.
Look for a teacher who is objective focused and has a clear and tailored lesson plan and expectations for what you are to acheive by the end of your time together.
Feel comfortable asking for help. Come with your best attitude and give it your all. Have an attitude of respect toward the teacher, other students and yourself. Persistence is more important than perfection.
Working with students during remote learning has been challenging but it also has been rewarding. While meeting with small groups of Third grade students, we focused on reading text and learning about the text features in addition to learning new vocabulary words.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What's being learned? What's the topic?
What seems most important about what's being learned? At first glance, what's the 'big idea' of what's being learned? ...
What do I already know and not know about this? ...
Why is this important? ...
What is my role in learning this?

As a colleague, Crystal has taught me how she connects with whoever she is working with. Her friendly personality really helps her to engage with whoever she is assisting and she would go as far as to find answers or ways of doing something if she didn't know it offhand. Whoever she is working with will definitely benefit from her.
