About Lisa

Hi my name is Lisa Schertler. I currently Coach swimming. I have worked 20 years in elementary education. I have taught grades K-2: largely focusing on struggling readers and writers. Although I have also taught High Learners, working with those students needing more support has always been more enjoyable. I have also spent time teaching Language Learners (grades 3-5) as I transitioned into my coaching profession.

My greatest enjoyment is watching my students grow academically and as individuals. I enjoy watching students gain confidence as they learn new skills.

I began informally teaching swim skills as a teen. Later I earned my teaching credential in Physical Education and taught K-8 P.E. After 3 years I transitioned into the classroom as a K/1 teacher. Now, I have made a full circle back to coaching swimming. I'd like to tutor because I know distance learning is challenging for many families

I have a Physical Education degree and a Multiple Subject teaching Credential. I have worked in elementary education for 20 years and currently work as a swim coach with the local team: SUNN Swimming.

About the lesson

I work with parents and try to really get to know the student. I am always interested building a strong connection with the swimmers and students I work with. I work hard to understand the students emotional and academic needs. I devise a strategy to help remediate the student's needs.

Working with struggling students in the First Grade means that about 25% of the students I have worked with tend to have undiagnosed learning and behavioral concerns. I have had language learners, heave worked with students on the autism spectrum, and with students with behavioral disorders.

I advise anyone looking for a tutor for their child to take the time to meet the tutor to be sure it is a good fit.

I enjoy walking my dogs in the park, hiking, swimming and coaching swimming. My most recent kid-centered event was in February where I was lead coach for our zone's 7/8 year old boys team. I was in charge of 8 boys during ice breakers, dinner, and the big championship Zones meet. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed volunteering for this position and meeting swimmers from the many teams in our zone.
