About Katya
A lifelong learner and long-time mentor, formal and informal education has always played an important part of my life and work. From teaching youth technical outdoor horseback riding and climbing to tutoring writing and communication studies, math, and philosophy, I strive to bring personal connection and positivity to all sessions. I believe in finding ways to make subjects interesting and understandable to every learner adjusting pace and teaching style so everyone can soak in the knowledge they want to.
+ Over 5 years of tutoring and teaching experience, both academic subjects and outdoor skills
+Experience teaching various age ranges, from early elementary to college age and levels
+ In-depth knowledge of writing, composition, and communication studies, philosophy, research skills, and study habits
+ Experience tutoring basic math (through Algebra 2), philosophy (including Logic)
+ Technical knowledge of photography and video editing
Throughout college, I worked as a tutor for multiple subjects including communication studies (writing and research) and philosophy (writing, critical thinking, and logic).
After graduating, I moved to the Bay Area and took up volunteer tutoring for families and students who could not afford expensive private tutoring services. I worked with elementary and middle school students in reading, writing, and math.
In the summers, I work and teach at a camp in Northern California, where I teach both arts and active courses such as horseback riding and care as well as climbing skills. I am a CHA certified equestrian instructor. I love combining learning with outdoor activity, and have worked to bulid a diversity of teaching styles and subjects.
With years of writing, editing, and proof reading experience, I bring a holistic and systematic approach to writing, from creating a clear and logical writing plan to detail oriented proof reading and editing. I cover both writing style, clarity and structure of the writing, and technical skills such as research, citations, and grammar.
I have also run training courses for organizations including photography and video production, branding, and case-story writting. In all my teaching, I strive to make sessions interactive and engaging, ensuring the pace keeps everyone interested without being overwhelmed.

I like to spend a few minutes getting to know each student - what they are most interested in, what they find the most challenging. We will set goals for the session(s).
Then, we discuss what each student understands about the subject(s) we are working on. We identify what specific questions they have, and will work through those questions and/or specific assignments.
At the end of each call, we review what we discussed, any remaining questions, and set a plan for any follow-up sessions.

Details
Tutoring costs $25 per hour for live sessions.
If a student does not have available assingments to review but wants to work on specific skills or content, an additional $15 per session will be charged for prep-work.
Students are responsible to ensureing they have a strong wifi connection
