About Miles
My name is Coach Miles Malcolm. I am a youth athletics coach for a variety of sports, including basketball, baseball, football, and soccer. I have been training athletes for 5 years now, and in that time I have been able to accumulate a variety of experiences (coaching, teaching, tutoring, camp counseling). My most recent employers are La Jolla Country Day School, where I worked for 2 years, and the San Diego Jewish Academy, where I currently specialize in middle/elementary school athletics. I pride myself on my ability to keep my athletes engaged, and to have the patience necessary to work them through their difficulties. I demand a high level of focus and desire from them to ensure they get the most out of whatever they do, but I'm always there to walk them through when difficulties arise. In my short career I've coached teams to championship games, and even taken teams with no prior experience on to winning seasons, primarily based on the effort I was able to coach out of them. If your child works with me, it will be to harness that effort and desire, and I promise results will follow, regardless of the sport.
I love this line of work because it gives me the ability and opportunity to transfer knowledge and skill to the next generation. I've never felt like I was working when I'm on the field or the court, and I take great satisfaction in knowing that my efforts can directly impact kid's lives for the better.
I began coaching in high school as a camp counselor and all-star baseball assistant coach
Then I joined a Youth sports contracting company in college where I worked for 2 years till graduation
Those jobs helped me realize my passion for working with kids, and for helping them grow in the world of sports
Since moving to San Diego I've coached all age groups at La Jolla Country Day and the Jewish Academy
I played every sport I could get access to as a child, and aside from cricket or other less common sports, I'd say I could train children in almost any of them. I played Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, and Football all through 8th grade and continued to play the first 3 through high school. I've coached Basketball and Football at the middle and high school level for the past 2 years, and have been training athletes

I typically like to asses the skill level of the student during the first session, and from there I tailor lessons to fit their needs and interests. I can work at the client's home or out of a public space like the park or Rec, it usually makes no difference to me. I'm happy to adjust to make things easy for the client
I work with k-12 and am completely comfortable with any age group. Being fairly young myslef I find it quite easy to interact with different age groups and to tailor my style based on the situation

My most recent two seasons I have coached basketball teams at the 7th/8th grade level with little to no experience. The boys team this winter lost their first game, but through hard practices, focus, and discipline, went on an undefeated 9-0 run the rest of the way. The girls team I currently coach has 1 player with experience, and after a loss to start the season, and discussions over whether we would ever win, we currently find ourselves 2-1, again based purely on desire and effort coached inot them at practice. I'm extremely proud of both teams and what they've been able to accomplish.

Details
I charge 40$ per hour + a gas fee for lessons out of my 10 mile range. I deduct 5$ per hour for each extra student at a session. (40$/1 $35/2 $30/3)
