About Michael
Frank's Fly Arts is the longest running drift boat fly fishing guide service in Columbia, SC operating on the Lower Saluda, Broad, and Congaree Rivers. We teach clients to do it all from casting, presenting all styles of fly, mending line, and using the correct retrieval techniques and fly fishing tactics to successfully land trophy trout, feisty smallmouth bass, and hard fighting striped bass - the official SC state fish. Casting lessons are included in the price of your trip and happen on the lawn on a date before your trip so that you have time to practice without the added pressure of trying to fool fish. We often help beginners get started in the sport, but also have plenty to offer the experienced fly fisher in helping them tweak their cast and improve their skills with the long rod.
What it comes down to is we treat our clients as we would our best fishing buddy getting them started in the sport the right way or introducing them to the best spots on our home waters. We provide the best equipment, instruction, and hand tied flies we've fished for over 30 years, as well as local knowledge of the rivers and guide you from safe comfortable inflatable drift boats - just sit back, let us do the rowing, and take in the scenery while learning about local history and ecology along the way.

I have been a fly fishing guide for over a decade now and would not trade the experience of sharing my love for the beautiful rivers of the SC midlands for anything! Being a fishing guide is about making memories for my clients, but I must admit I have made plenty for myself over the years as well as friendships with my clients.
As much as I love to fish and catching a good fish myself, seeing my clients land a good fish on the fly is a thrill in itself. Landing a trophy trout that threatened to break off by repeatedly jumping high in the air while shaking its entire body or a bruiser striped bass in the double-digits that peeled all the fly line off the reel and took the client into the backing on its first good run often leaves both me and the clients shaking with excitement.
They say God does not count days spent fishing on the river... I believe this. Come see why.
I am a public school teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching students ages 4 to over 90. My clients often remark on my patience and ability to explain everything from complex casting techniques to aquatic entomology, fish physiology and how they respond to stimuli, basic hydrology and how currents affect fish and their prey, as well as human impacts on our local aquatic environment.
I am also certified in CPR and First Aid.

Details
Casting instruction (on the lawn, no fishing included) is $30 per hour per person.
*Half day (5-6 hour) guided drift boat float trip is $350. Includes casting lesson before your trip.
*Full day (8-12 hour) guided drift boat float trip is $400. Includes casting lesson before your trip.
*These rates are for 1 or 2 fishermen or 1 fisherman and 1 guest who wants to come along for the ride. No discount is given for single fishermen as your guide still has to row 12 1/2 miles of river regardless of who is along for the ride and having your guide's undivided attention is worth every penny!
Gratuity is not expected, but much appreciated if you feel you received exceptional service and attention.
