About James
I’m a graduate of the Meadows School of Music at SMU with a Masters in guitar performance. I have studied music since a very young age, studying both piano and guitar. I play a variety of instruments including guitar, piano, bass, and a variety of folkloric stringed instruments. I believe that lessons should be tailored made for each student. A “one size fits all” mentality doesn’t work as efficiently as developing a curriculum that works to strengthen a student’s weakness and use their strengths to develop confidence.
I enjoy seeing people grow and develop the ability to do something they love.
I began teaching while pursuing my undergraduate studies in order to better prepare myself for future employment.
I have a Masters degree in guitar performance from SMU. I have taught at many levels from elementary to the collegiate level.

I first begin by finding out what the student’s experience level is and what their goals are. After I understand those two things I can begin an appropriate course of action for the student.
All kinds. I have had students from 5 to 75. Students with many different goals. And students coming from many different backgrounds.
Do your research and ask questions.
I have recently had the joy of watching one of my former students perform a recital as part of their studies at SMU.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I believe students should think about their goals. What do they want to be able to do. They should ask teachers about what the appropriate type of instrument they should be using. And they should come up with questions to find out what the teachers philosophy of music education is.

James guided my playing since I was 17 and is the reason I was accepted into Southern Methodist’s University’s classical guitar program. He is an incredible musician, teacher, and friend.
I've been taking classical guitar lessons with James for 2yrs. He's a very gifted and a patient teacher. James always brings a positive approach to each lesson. He's also very observant of technique and has a great ear. I highly recommend James for whatever instrument you're playing.
