About Jaimie

Hi! I’m currently a non-traditional Grad student of Anthropology, Archaeology, & History (Social Sciences). I’m also really good at research and writing! By non-traditional, I mean I am an adult (39) going to school (Masters). I have a lot of experience teaching all grade levels. I am a mom so I’m good with kids. I even homeschooled my oldest for awhile. I am patient and develop creative ways to teach. I never give up on my students. I try my best to make learning fun and as hand on as I can! I am top of my own class, have very prestigious honors and scholarships, and most importantly, I myself, LOVE to learn! I am very passionate about history, especially prehistory and love sharing everything I can with others. So, if you are ready to get As in the subjects I tutor (History, Social Sciences, Research, Writing, Math, Anthropology, etc.) then contact me and we will get a schedule coordinated.

I have always had a passion for learning and education mixed with a gift for helping and teaching others. After tutoring my peers and getting told that I was really good at breaking down concepts in ways they were able to grasp and retain, I decided to begin teaching in the side while I attend grad school.

I am a senior Anthropology major with a honors minor at the University of Wyoming. This is my last semester before earning my BA. I will then head to grad school where I will be pursuing my PhD in Anthropology. I focus on Prehistoric Archaeology in the Northwestern Plains and Rocky Mountain regions.

Because I do a ton of research, I must constantly read and write. I am very good at writing and am knowledgeable in mechanics and formatting in several styles.

Believe it or not, Archaeology does require quite a bit of math. Mostly statistics but also Algebra. This, the reasons I am exceptionally well qualified to tutor reading, writing, and Math! I also tutor in social sciences, general science, research methods, and of course, History!

I currently hold a 3.9 GPA. I am a University of Wyoming Research Scholar. And, I am both a McNair and Jack Kent Cooke Scholar!

Lastly, I absolutely LOVE to teach and help people. I have always had a special talent for being creative in developing methods for breaking down concepts so that individuals can grasp retain them easily. As a mother (I am a non traditional student) with a 12 year old and a 17 year old, I am great with children, pre-teens, teens, and young adults! I can teach at all levels. I even offer a homeschool option! And, I will do 6-12 week classes in specific subjects/topics that focus on specific items that people are interested in learning or getting supplemental education in.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

Thank you for your consideration!

During our first session, I ask questions that allow me to understand the student’s goal(s), needs, learning style, level of understanding of the subject material, stressors, and what they want to get out of our time together. Everything is based on an individual approach and tailored to meet the specific needs of each student that I tutor.

Next, I develop and structured learning plan based on their goals, needs, and learning styles that we begin at our second session and work through the plan until the student has reached their goals and understands the material thoroughly.

I make sure that we are moving at the student's pace so that they obtain a solid level of understanding that they do not only memorize but learn the material.

I have worked with all types of students. Those that know exactly what they are doing, but need validation to those who cannot stand the subject and have no motivation to complete assignments or learn the material. This is why I take an individualized approach to teaching. No two people are the same or learn in the same way. Once I have a clear understanding of the student's needs, goals, and expectations, I am able to provide them with a learning plan that they feel good about. They do not feel overwhelmed with my approach. I really care about my students and their success. My student's success is my success.

The number one thing a student should look for in any teacher is the teachers genuine level of care for the student and their success. Many tutors are in it for money only and could care less about the students they teach. You hear it in their voices or actions when they make you feel bad for not understanding something. That kind of experience will tear students down and could cause irreparable damage. So, make sure your tutor cares about you on an individual level. They should be your biggest cheerleader!

I recently attended a guest lecturer’s talk on how Hunter/gatherer societies should actually be called “gatherer/hunter societies because it has been found that they typically have around an 80% foraging diet and only a 20% meat diet that was procured through hunting. Therefore showing that i our notion of forager societies and their hunting habits have been incorrect!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are my specific learning goals?

What do I not understand about the material specifically?

What is my learning style?

What am I looking for in a tutor?

What are my short and long-term goals academically speaking?

Am I ready to put in the required effort and work to get not only passing grades but A's?
