About Alexandra

I am a doctoral candidate in Sociology at the City University of New York Graduate Center. As a professional, I have had various experiences in public history and cultural institutions focused on US immigration history and cultural studies. I look forward to working with you to advance your goals in developing skills and curiousity about the social sciences and how valuable they are to understanding today's world!

I enjoy exploring patterns in history: making connections and discovering the makings of theory.

I have always been interested in education, as a curious citizen and active student! I began teaching by teaching citizenship test prep and ESOL classes to immigrants in Chinatown, and also have taught English overseas. I also led class programs and public programs in education at the Tenement Museum in New York's Lower East Side. Now, my commitment to education has deepened as I teach at the undergraduate university level and pursue my PhD in Sociology.

I teach multidisciplinary courses at the university level, including a social history of New York seminar and Introductory Sociology. I also have extensive experience leading walking tours and public history programs about immigration in the US and other cultural topics.

About the lesson

If you are interested in working with me, we will begin by scheduling a free consultation to discuss your goals and craft a study plan. My approach is entirely customized to your specific goals.

Linda

You cannot go wrong with Ali as a tutor! As a mentor, she is extremely understanding and approachable. She will work with your individual needs and teach in a way that guarantees a thorough understanding while preserving an informal and friendly atmosphere. Ali is also highly qualified to tutor anyone studying social sciences due to her expertise teaching and working in the social sciences. She possesses an incredibly expansive (and nuanced) knowledge of American history, with an understanding of its cultural and racial dynamics as they pertain to immigration. Ali is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a social sciences tutor.

Ali had previously served as a mentor for me at a history-based non profit organization. She played an instrumental part in ensuring that my experience was as enjoyable, successful, and fruitful as possible! Through her guidance and expertise, I was able to expand my horizons about things such as Asian American history, immigration history, and much more. Ali is extremely knowledgeable in the field of history and social sciences, and anyone who has the experience to learn from her is in good hands!
