About David
I'm as much a counselor as a teacher, and that's mostly what I do today. Overall I really enjoy helping people find themselves, and grow, philosophically and spiritually. (That happens in everyday life, such as when you clear up a communication issues or, or when your depression lifts a bit due to personal insight). That could happen in a number of ways--through counseling for anxiety issues or whatever, meditation instruction to destress or stay calmer, nonduality discussion (if your interest is profound nonreligious spirituality, dreamwork if the person does have disturbing dreams and is curious about them--sometimes that's the most powerful method--OR learning through one of the courses or lectures I do.
It all relates to personal growth in some way. (Buddhist philosophy, for example, really gets some people going.) For qualifications, testimonials, links to youtubes, etc. see my website at davidlowmsphd.com. You work with me, you'll be dealing with someone who can communicate the energy, enthusiasm, and confidence you'll need to be less anxious, depressed or fearful, be more motivated to lose weight, ber able to communicate better with the people in your life, or understand yourself better overall--whatever the case may be.
The best thing is being with people as they're having insights, or getting better in one way or another--because I feel it too!
Whether it's a family-related understanding leading to less depression, less fear of a specific thing, not having used or engaged in a destructive substance or behavior, feeling better because or a dietary or health adjustment, understand what a dream was trying to tell them, or over overcoming some anxiety-related issue like panic attacks or whatever--it's at those times that what I do becomes really rewarding.
I started teaching adult noncredit courses in philosophy in 1981 while working as a technical writer for a computer company in Altanta, GA. My first college teaching happened at Temple University as a graduate student in '96.
A BS degree (with lots of anthropology), a MS in Community Counseling (with more anthropology), a PhD in Religious Studies (focus on psychology of religion), ten years of college teaching experience, seven years of mostly-substance-abuse agency counseling experience (usually also involving anxiety, depression, communication issues, etc.), 3 years of private practice involving general issues (anxiety, etc.) and dreamwork, 27 years of a strong marriage (I'm good with basic couples therapy), 38 years of dream trackin g, and 6 years of formal spiritual seeking, which involved living in communities and pilgrimmages abroad. (67 years of life so far!!)

Aside from CBT-related counseling (anxiety, depression, etc.), the specific things I specialize in would be dreamwork, what I call Mindful Recovery, and what I call Customized Meditation (see website for details). And if someone's interested in spiritually-related philosophy, etc. I love that most of all.
For any of those things, it's necessary of course to get to know the person, which means a first session will be both informal and formal. I'll gather basic information, get familiar with the client's background, answer questions (if any) about myself and qualifications etc, do evaluations for common problems as appropriate, formulate a treatment plan with the client and make some initial progress as time allows.
College students and adults... I like the adults more!
In spirituality, an older person with lots of perspective is a must. If he or she thinks that one path or tradition is better than all the others, stay away from that person!
The other day, a client really got how her dream was telling her to accept her daugher's choice of husband, and her own strained relationship with this son-in-law, as her karma, and not as her fault. She almost came to tears. Another recently cried for a half-hour as a result of understandings connected with doing his first meditation--on his own!--after I taught him the technique. Also, I'd have to say seeing two people rediscover how they really do love and respect each other, once you get them communicating again.
Plus, I've seen lots of CBT situations, etc. which are less dramatic but just as meaningful to clients.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Understand what you want as best you can. Ask as many practical, rubber-meets-the-road questions as you do ideal, theoretical questions.

Very down to earth and understanding. Has helped me immensely with practical, step by step procedures and exercises.
David speaks with a wonderful clarity, warmth and intention. It is a pleasure to listen to him speak when he stands in front of people to offer a presentation.
“I’m inspired by David’s ability as a presenter. The respect, warmth, and clarity with which he addresses his audiences is equally balanced by his knowledge and understanding of a subject.”
Dr. Low spoke to our club on the timely subject of Islam. His remarks gave us a better understanding of the core beliefs of its adherents, as well as some insight into the rise or terrorism. Not only is Dr. Low knowledgeable on this subject, but he can skillfully communicate this knowledge to make for an interesting and stimulating discussion.
David is very knowledgeable and very generous with his expertise. I gained great insight into my dreams.
On a number of occasions, David has helped me to discern what to put my attention on in, my vast dreamscape. His ‘passionately soft’ coaching has made a difference for me to then embody the dream, and to honor it. Because dreams are so intimate and personal, it is important to feel safe when you share them… David creates the space for that very well… he’s definitely a “dream whisperer.”
David's reading was so helpful in interpreting my dream. He helped me to see to the core of it. He related to every thing that I remembered and was so patient. I never felt hurried and felt he was genuinely interested in helping me. I would not hesitate to contact him again with any future dreams.
I have been in classes with David Low to learn how to interpret dreams. He has been a remarkable teacher. He has shown respect for each student and allowed each their way of reaching understanding thru his carefully crafted program we follow. He is sensitive and caring which shows in many ways through out his time with us. His gentle manner guides us to find our own answers. His formula for interpretations of others dreams is unique for its kindness and clarity of purpose. It allows us to be wrong without consequences. I heartily recommend him for any project he will take on.
I was introduced to Dr. David Low by a mutual colleague and became interested in his work. His book "Universal Philosophy and Practice" covers everything, the orthodox, the mystical, the atheist, the enlightened. He comes with us into our world of dreams, and helps us to navigate the symbols , both objectively and personally, and weaves it all into the never ending tapestry of our inner landscape. Dr. David is a frequent and very much looked forward guest on BBSradio.com Meta Mondays, where we discuss all topics, and have guests from the metaphysical field. He is so helpful that he returns monthly to analyze and teach about dreams. I have referred clients who rave about his work, and I know that he has answered dream questions on the show so accurately and in tune with exactly what is going on in their lives. He is professional, yet very relatable.
I greatly enjoyed David Low’s one-day workshop entitled NIGHTTIME DREAMS: GETTING HELP AND RESOLVING ISSUES. The material and work were deeply thought provoking. Thanks to you and the men in the group, I came away understanding two important things about myself that were bothering me but I couldn’t identify until Sunday. Great work, valuable material, excellent organization. Keep me posted if you decide to host other workshops.
I got so much more than I expected from the one-day workshop with David Low. As a Licensed Professional Counselor myself, I am used to going to trainings and David's was every bit as good as any I have attended. I participate regularly in 2 self improvement groups and was very happy to experience an important piece of personal growth through the processing of one of my dreams with David and our workshop group. It was more than just an ‘Aha!’ moment, it was actually growth. I heartily recommend David’s work.
David’s dream circles have helped me tremendously with opening up my understanding of my own dream symbology. I’ve been able to dive deeper into my dream life and have been able expand my awareness of possibilities with dreaming. I’ve been able to utilize dreams to provide answers to questions that are both mundane and of a deeper nature. Even though I don’t always get the clearest understanding the journaling process has kept me engaged and intrigued. David provides a safe space to explore these realms and offers an abundance of knowledge around the world of dreaming.
David is the consummate dreamwork facilitator. He brings a broad, deep background of personal and academic experience in dreams, myths, and the power of the unconscious. David focuses on each person and their own lucid and non-lucid dreams so that even in a group, everyone feels connected. His reading, research, and dream study makes him a unique and effective resource for those looking for guidance in dreams and the dream-state.
Dave is a true educator and believer. I have attended many of Dave’s Abington Adult School night courses and at the commencement of each class I was looking forward to his next offered course selection. “Buddhist Philosophy and Ethics” through “Methods of Meditation” taught me, (thanks to his knowledge and relaxed instructional ways), the power of holding it together through this CoVid19 year...Thank you Dave. I am looking forward to attending the long awaited course on Dreams. PS: “ Universal Spiritual Studies Philosophy and Practice” by Dave is a must Read. For me it is the link that ties my Spiritual Path with my Journey.
I have taken different classes taught by Dr. David Low and I have learned so much from him. My favorite classes were his dreamwork classes and his meditation class! In my opinion, Dr. Low is excellent because his knowledge of the areas is top-notch. More importantly, Dr. Low is such a fantastic teacher because his lectures are so enthralling and easy to understand. I call him my guru.
David’s experience and intuitive insights provide superb dream work. Life insights and guidance that our dreams give us result from working with David.

Except for the meditation, all individual tutoring for the topics I teach would be $60/hour; $40/half hour would be the smallest unit of service.
When it comes to price, you’ll see that my website offers essentially three choices for meditation. The $10 promo call is 15 minutes and basically uses a general method that works for lot of people initially.
$90 --this is the one I suggest--will get you a one-hour session with (1) a method customized for you, (2) a lead-in to your meditation, (3) after your experience, post-meditation troubleshooting if you have questions about the process (including a technique modification if necessary), and (4) an overview of important philosophical issues relating to meditation, which I think are important to ponder by way of motivation for your practice as you go along.
And $250 will get you the attunement package as described.
