About Bob
For over 30 years, Bob Thurman has brought his unique safety and self-defense training seminar to thousands world-wide. Bob "Thunder" Thurman is the former Professional Karate Association World Champion for eight years has been featured on ABC Wide World of Sports, NBC Sports World, and ESPN. He was the subject of a major feature in Sports Illustrated magazine and appeared with Chuck Norris on "Walker, Texas Ranger."
Bob was at the height of his career when violence threatened his family. In 1989 a near-fatal robbery attempt was made on his wife while she walked through a parking garage with a friend. Bob retired from professional karate and dedicated himself to developing a street-effective system of self- defense that would help others avoid the terrible trauma that his wife had suffered.
Consulting with internationally known social psychologists, law enforcement professionals--at local and national levels--and motivational specialists, Bob designed a unique system of training programs stressing mental awareness, psychological strategies, and, if necessary, tactics and techniques for surviving and escaping an attack.
Bob brings a unique combination to the field of personal protection training. His straight-forward, sometimes humorous, approach brings a dynamic presentation to a wealth of martial arts and self-defense experiences. As a result, Counter Attactics programs are dynamic, informative, and specific to the needs of individuals and organizations.
Recently, Bob's safety course was approved by the Transportation Security Administration for pilot and flight attendant initial and re-current self defense training. He has now taught dozens of "confined space" self defense programs for airlines.
Bob’s passionate campaign to bring self-defense training to as many people as possible has attracted national and local media coverage, and he has been a guest on many radio and TV programs. His programs have been presented to a wide variety of industries, including many hospitals, colleges, major corporations, airlines, and state safety councils. A small sampling of clients include: Champion Airlines, St. Luke’s Hospital, AT&T, Sprint, and the National Emergency Nurses Association. He has been featured at Association Meetings, Break-out Sessions, Team Building programs, Spouse programs, and Employee Training. He will custom design programs to fit the industry, the client, and the occasion.
These programs stress mental awareness, psychological strategies, and, if necessary, techniques for surviving and escaping an attack. All topics are available as keynote presentations or half-day hands-on training seminars.
