About Cal
My passions for Math and the natural sciences, and the truths of the world that they reveal, have run deep in me for as long as I can remember.
I am a truth-lover and a musician. My favorite high school teacher (a mentor to me, whose curiosity amplified my own) was a musician himself, as well as my Calculus, Astronomy, and Physics teacher. In Spring of 2020, I graduated from Wesleyan University with a major in Physics and a certificate in Social, Cultural & Critical Theory -- there I helped prof. Brian Stewart develop and teach an intro interdisciplinary Physics course called "Radical Sustainability", aimed at activating the students' passions for environmental justice by teaching them to wield the tools of energy science, and integrate those tools with the arts of cultural reform. I graduated into the COVID pandemic, and since then have been tutoring Math & Physics privately, mainly working remotely over Zoom, but occasionally tutoring in-person where circumstances permit.
I've had great success helping students meet their academic goals and motivating them to reach higher. I empower students to learn more by fueling their interests in the material and helping them to address obstacles they encounter on the way.
It is gratifying for me to escort student through their material in a way that opens their mind to it. I've worked with students with attention challenges, organizational challenges, and physical disabilities, and in all scenarios I've found that a student's engagement with the material is connected to their sense of empowerment and self-esteem around solving the problems they face. So to be an effective tutor, I work to show them where their problem-solving power is, and how to use it.
To help my students develop a thorough understanding of their material I provide structure around regular practice, teach them to access their curiosity and creativity as they solve problems. Learning requires an active investment on the part of the learner -- I show my students that it is an investment worth making.

Cal is extremely knowledgable about Physics but his approachability and kindness is what really allowed me to engage with him and learn. He is great at helping you solve problems and answer your questions but also gives you space to approach them on your own. We would do that by using an online software that was really helpful as we could both interact with each others work.
Working with Cal this past year was a really great experience. In both math and physics Cal was able to help me every time I was struggling to understand a certain concept. He is easy to talk to and always ready to work through any challenging material you bring him.
