About Corey
I am a sophomore at Bowdoin College where I plan to major in math and education. For years, my extracurricular universe has centered around child and adolescent development, mentoring, and education – working in various teaching capacities with kids ranging in age from toddler to teen. I spent five years as a volunteer providing individual and group care and education services at a childcare center. While in high school, I was hired as a Senior Tutor at Kumon, where I taught math and reading to elementary and middle school students, and my work earned me a promotion to Team Manager. This experience inspired me to expand into private home tutoring, with a growing focus on high school students, as I spent 20 hours per week for several years individually teaching over 10 students primarily math (through advanced calculus) but also science, history, writing, literature, and Spanish. Many of my tutees had ADHD and other special learning needs, so I was especially challenged – and rewarded – by the opportunity to reach kids struggling academically and restore their confidence.
