About Bradshaw
While I have had success in my math education (getting A's in 4 math classes at my local university before graduating high school, and continuing on to study higher math extensively in college), I have been frustrated throughout my educational career with the non-intuitive way math is often taught, with its the emphasis on rote learning and repetition.
Mathematical thinking is a skill like any other, that can be taught but rarely is due to the limitations of a classroom setting. As a tutor, I aim to help students in their math classes by giving them the tools they need to solve problems from the bottom up so that they are able to leave each lesson feeling more confident in their own capabilities.
I believe visualization is an essential part of mathematical thinking that is often overlooked by teachers, and in addition to hands-on help with homework and text-prep, I also prepare personalized lessons for students which can provide them with new methods of understanding concepts and problems from their classes.
While I have had my frustrations with math classes in the past, I remain passionately interested in the subject and all its intricacies. I have always found tutoring to be a rewarding job that challenges me to find new ways to explain and understand the material while giving me a chance to meaningfully help people, and hopefully to show them that math can be less than painful, if not beautiful.
