About Tyler
I hold a BSc in Mathematics and an MSc in Mathematics, and am currently en route to an additional MSc and PhD in Applied Mathematics.
With three years of experience in private tutoring all levels of mathematics, I am a truly versatile, experienced and efficient tutor. I have two years of in-classroom teaching in the calculus sequence (Calculus 1, 2, and 3), as well as three years of tutoring in university mathematics department tutoring labs. I have helped dozens of students reach their academic goals, and many of them I consider to be friends. You will find that I am friendly, patient, understanding, and easy to talk to
I've helped students in all levels of mathematics, from elementary school mathematics through upper-division university mathematics: pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, AP calculus, college algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus 1, 2, 3, calculus-based statistics, elementary statistics, ordinary differential equations, linear algebra, and more!
Math is what I do, both professionally and recreationally. I am very passionate about mathematics, and I share this enthusiasm with my students. I'm looking forward to working with you! :)
I started as a graduate student in 2016 where I was a teaching assistant for the calculus sequence. Later, I had the privilege to teach the calculus sequence.

We'll try to figure out where you are mathematically, usually by a short assessment. I want to see where your weaknesses are, what your homework is like, where you're having issues, etc., and then we'll work on patching the holes in your knowledge before proceeding.
I've worked with all age groups, both sexes, and a variety of ethnicities, in a wide variety of courses. My youngest student was 10, and my oldest student was 70. My typical students are between 15 and 25 years of age. I am happy to work with anyone and everyone. :)
Hire me, obviously.
Just kidding. But really, you should look for someone with a strong background in mathematics, who's passionate about mathematics and can communicate the material in a relatable and intuitive way. Many teachers get their teaching certification, pass their content exam and never review their subject matter again until they're about to give their lesson. A good teacher or tutor should have their material fully internalized. Someone without well-developed intuition cannot possibly teach mathematical intuition to someone else, right? Experience and education in the field are key, with interpersonal skills as a close runner-up.
Fortunately for you, I have all of these things in abundance! Contact me and we'll set something up. :D
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Is is the teacher's responsibility to teach me, or is it my responsibility to learn?
Am I dedicating enough mental energy to my studies, or am I daydreaming about a video game during class?
What do I want to get out of my studies? Am I motivated, or is this just something I have to do to get through school?
Learning can be uncomfortable because it requires that I admit I don't know something. What is my relationship with this sort of discomfort?

$20/hr if you're willing to meet at a public place, such as a library near me, or $25-35/hr if it's a public place further away. We can talk about it! Feel free to contact me. Mostly, I just need to make sure the venture is still profitable, bearing in mind gas, driving time and vehicle wear-and-tear.
