About Luke
Currently I am in school in a Math program with a minor in teaching. I can relate to struggles that students of both a younger age and teenage years endure. I have been working with kids for almost 4 years on many differnet skills, both related to math and not, and this allows me to instinctually feel when they are not understanding.
I very much enjoy the moment a student understands a concept that they previously thought was too hard. I have found that there are very few things that students cannot grasp if explained in an intuitive and genuine manner. The realization that crosses their face then they accept that they know how to confidently explore a concept is a really cool thing to be apart of.
I am in the Uteach program at UTD. I have also tutored unoffically for around 5 years and taught classes such as rock climbing basics and how to ride a bike at the dallas REI. I have experience tutoring peers, and also with kids as young as 4.

Generally, I like to sit down with them and give them an opportunity to tell me why they think they are struggling and where their biggest concerns are. If we can start on a concept with something they know they are struggling with, and make progress, their motivation will increase substantially.
I think the quickest thing to frustrate a student is trying to teach a concept in a way that does not make sense to the student. So my advice would be find a tutor that can tech you in a way that you know you learn best. There are really strong ideaologies about visual, reading, etc. learners out there, and it can be the difference between helping a student immensely and frustrating them to the point of not caring anymore.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would suggest knowing where you think you want to start. The tutor may have another suggestion as to where to start, but this usually gives us insight into what you are most uncomfortable with in the concept.
