About Rustin
Hello there!
My name is Rustin Shamloo and I'm an Orange County local.
I hold a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and am in the process of studying for graduate school exams full-time.
With this downtime and the increase in remote services like Zoom, I figured I could keep my technical skills sharp while also giving back in some way to the future of this country: the K-12 students in our local comunities.
Assisting students in learning the material, teaching them how to learn, how to study for exams, and how to be resourceful are how I plan to achieve this.
My tutoring experience dates back to high school (2009-2013), where I would meet with students at the public library or their house. Then, I began tutoring on the side in college to help pay rent and was told by every student that I "boiled it down to laymen terms" very effectively. The results spoke for themselves.

- Math ranging from elementary pre-algebra to multi-variable calculus
- AP Physics (1 and both C's)

- Top 15% of my graduating M.E. class at Cal Poly SLO
- 2 years work experience for a Big 4 ESCO, consulting clients and adding value to their businesses in the most efficient manner.

I enjoy re-learning STEM subjects, helping students achieve their goals, and showing students that anyone can learn anything, as long as they work at it and never give up.
I hope that through tutoring, I can shed light on the power of knowledge and being patient during the learning process. I believe that these skills translate well into solidifying good habits for students to apply in their daily lives.

I begin by first assessing what subject matter the potential student is struggling with.
Once I identify the specifics, I ask the student what about the subject matter is causing them problems.
Next, I work out a reasonable study plan based on their next benchmarks - quizzes, midterms, finals, projects, etc.
From there, I work closely with the student to overcome the specific learning gaps that may exist. This can be through my own lectures/demonstrations, through answering questions, or through administering my own quizzes or exams that I feel will reflect what the professor is placing emphasis on (learning objectives for the curriculum).
After that point, it is usually a quick turnaround in terms of their engagement with the material, ability to "think like the test writer", and find more help if I am unavailable.
I recognize, however, that every student learns in various ways. I myself grew up with ADHD and other disabilities that forced me to adapt and come up with my own simpler ways of grasping/applying material.
My goal is to see the students' growth, their interest in these topics bloom, and the ultimate prize - a better equipped student with the skills and knowledge to take on any academic obstacle in their way going forward.
