About Chana
I have a special touch with helping students succeed in chemistry and math! I've taught science for the past fifteen years, and I also tutor for the SAT and ACT. I'm currently teaching at NSU University School, and working part-time at Broward Tutorial.
I was running my own business doing candle making and candle decorating events. My favorite part of the whole business was working with the children (and also explaining where wax comes from - you can all me when we meet). I decided to use that, plus my biology degree, to go into science education.
I have a BA in biology from University of California, Berkeley. I have teaching certifications in chemistry and biology, and in gifted education. I've been teaching for fifteen years, so I have a lot of experience working with students.

In general my focus is on helping the student understand the material they are learning, rather than on completing an assignment. I speak with the student about what they are finding challenging in chemistry or math. Generally students have brought a study guide for a test it an assignment they are having trouble completing, and we'll go over that. If not, or if we finish that material, I'll supplement with my own materials.

Find someone wants to reach you rather than give you the answers; someone who knows the subject and loves it; and someone who you can communicate with.
Evacuating to avoid Hurricane Maria. It was a very challenging time, but it brought our the best in a lot of people
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
If you're taking a class from a teacher, keep in mind that they are probably dedicated to your success, and to teaching well. They are most likely concerned about your grade also. You want to collaborate with this person, not fight with them. Think about how you can present your needs so that you are acknowledging the teacher's current efforts, rather than blaming them for your grades!
