About Kelsey
Hello future tutorees,
My name is Kelsey McDonald, and I am excited to help you on your learning journey! I hold a PhD in computational neuroscience from Duke University, where I studied how humans learn and make decisions. Before that, I earned my BA from Princeton University, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience. My educational background gives me a strong foundation in both the biological and psychological aspects of learning, which I bring into my tutoring approach.
During my time at Duke, I served as a Teacher’s Assistant for three semesters, primarily at the college level. This role allowed me to hone my skills in explaining complex topics, breaking them down in ways that make them accessible and engaging for students. Additionally, I have several years of experience tutoring and mentoring students from kindergarten through 12th grade in subjects ranging from math and science to psychology and neuroscience. I’m passionate about helping students not only improve their academic performance but also develop a love for STEM fields. My goal is to foster curiosity and confidence, encouraging students to see themselves as future scientists, mathematicians, or thinkers.
My tutoring approach is personalized to each student’s needs. I believe in creating a supportive and interactive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring difficult concepts. Whether you're struggling with a specific topic or looking to strengthen your overall understanding, I aim to help you achieve your goals and see the joy in learning.
