About Catherine
I love teaching middle grades math because it is the point at which students either learn to love or hate math and my goal is to have them see math as important, necessary, and painless. I encourage them to try even if they don't think their answer is correct because my motto is mistakes are marvelous opportunities to learn. I taught middle grade math for the last six years of my almost 40 years of teaching.
I enjoy watching students become less fearful of math and more self confident in their abilities. I usually find that they are much better in math than they think they are, and convincing them of that is my main goal.
I have an Ed.S in Middle Grades Math, M.S. and B.S. In Elementary Education, and Gifted Endorsement. I taught for 38 years, tutored and long term subbed for two years, and homeschooled a student for two years (7th and 8th). I currently tutor 6-8 math only.
