Mr. Dertien was fun to work with and was really easy to get along. An expert in his field, Mr. Dertien was really helpful in helping me understand assignments as well as challenging me to learn new concepts that I had never used before. All in all Mr. Dertien is an excellent teacher!

Nick was an amazing professor! We worked on ceramics and I learned so much. He encouraged me to explore all different aspects of the cermanic process such as glazing, the wheel, sculpting and slab throwing. Nick did a great job of keeping me motivated and giving me small challenges when I felt stuck. Loved this class!

Everything. Nick has a vast knowledge of artistic information and the skills necessary to explain that information without over complicating the basic ideas of art. To this day I find myself reference notes taken in his class or thing basic to fundamentals he taught like color theory, the use of shadows, perspective, and the idea of gestalt in art. Without exaggeration his class is probably the most useful course I've ever taken in college. Yes that could be the course its self but it could easily have been an unfuffilling class with no take away. Fortunately that was never the case. Every class was engaging, and I looked forward to being there. Its not easy to motivate an evening class but Nick found a way to make me look forward to school after a 9 hour work day.
