About Eric
Eric Clark has performed to great acclaim throughout much of the United States and in Europe.
Upcoming engagements this season include the Grieg Concerto with the Space Coast Symphony in Vero Beach, Florida, conducted by maestro Aaron Collins, as well as solo recitals in the New York and New Jersey areas for various arts organizations.
In February of 2013, Eric was selected to perform a forty-minute recital at the Rockefeller University in New York City for the screening round of the Fourteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Approximately one hundred thirty pianists worldwide were chosen for this honor; auditions were held in six cities worldwide.
During August 2012, Eric attended Musicfest Perugia, held every summer in Perugia, Italy, where he performed Camille Saint-Saens's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Parlarte Symphony orchestra, under the direction of maestro Sergei Babayan.
Eric made his debut in the 2011 season of the International Piano Series in Charleston, SC, for which he received glowing reviews. Recalling his performance of Stravinsky's Petrouchka, Charleston Today writes “Clark managed brilliant execution throughout, perfectly capturing Stravinsky's ingeniously quirky structures and headlong rhythmic drive.”
Eric has performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, accompanying soprano Amaya Arberas in a recital sponsored by the Cuban Cultural Center of New York. The concert also featured his solo performance of the Samuel Barber Sonata , which was given its premiere in Havana by the legendary Vladimir Horowitz. In 2011, Eric appeared in the prestigious Concerts at One series at Trinity Wall St., in New York. In a review of Eric's all-Liszt recital for Trinity Wall St., Lucid Culture praised his readings of the “ Years of Pilgrimage: Italy ,” remarking, “ It's not often that audiences get to hear the thoughtful side of Liszt: Kudos to Clark for delivering it with grace and, if anything, understatement. ”
In Europe, he has given solo recitals in Germany and Italy. In February of 2010, Eric performed a benefit concert at the Furstensaal Castle in Dusseldorf, Germany, which raised over five thousand euros for the Haiti earthquake relief efforts.
Eric is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied with Enrique Graf and Sergey Schepkin. While there, he also received lessons from Earl Wild and Ilana Vered. Winning first-prize in the 2009 Concerto Competition at Carnegie Mellon, Eric made his Pittsburgh debut in to great acclaim, playing the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic, conducted by Ronald Zollman.
A passionate advocate of new music, Eric has commissioned a solo piano work by fellow CMU graduate Christian Kriegeskotte. Entitled “ Le Mat- XXII Arcana,” this ambitious work is a cycle of twenty two pieces, each based on one of the twenty-two “major arcana” of the tarot. Eric premiered the first installment of the work in his 2011 Charleston recital. While preparing a recording of John Corigliano's “Etude Fantasy,” in 2012, Eric was fortunate to receive coaching from the composer himself.
Eric is originally from River Vale, New Jersey, and currently resides in Fort Lee, New Jersey, where he maintains a private teaching studio in addition to his concert activities. Coming from a family with several professional artists, Eric is also an accomplished visual artist, whose drawings and paintings have won awards at New Jersey arts festivals.
