About Jessica
Hi!
My name is Jessica and I can't wait to help you find YOUR voice because YOUR voice is unlike anyone else's . No two people sound exactly the same; isn't that a beautiful thing? I truly believe it is, so much so that I've dedicated over two decades of my life to it. After double majoring at the University of Delaware (music, communication) I continued my private voice study with coaches based in LA and NYC and soon began sharing my own knowledge of the voice with my own students, all the while landing my own gigs on-stage and on-screen.
I'd like to take a moment to let you know I have student reviews on Takethis website and I'd be happy to give you references of current and past students if that would make you more comfortable! Out of respect for their time, I have chosen to not ask students for reviews on all websites.
Watching my students exceed their own expectations has been just as much, if not even more rewarding than performing for myself.
I am fortunate enough to say that teaching, performing, recording, writing, producing and arranging music has taken me all over the world both physically and digitally! My lastest gig was singing for the AFC Championship Game Trailer for the NFL - the recording reached over 46 million people!
Through staying true to my voice, I continue to create a life I love and my students are an incredibly important piece of that life!
Some things you should know about me:
- From 2003-Present Day I've trained with several classical and broadway style voice coaches as well as NYC's most in-demand pop-style vocal coach. I've spent many years performing in choirs and professional a cappella groups.
- In 2007 I began teaching private lessons in my hometown and continued to do so sporadically throughout college and afterwards in NYC
- I recorded with a major record label (now Capitol Records) and performed with a classical crossover group on PBS Television
- I performed on NBC's The Sing-Off with my group The Deltones for which I was once a director, arranger and vocal coach.
- I sang with Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks and Carrie Underwood
- I've shared a stage and gone on tour with GUSTER, The Band Perry, Marc Broussard, LAUV, Shoffy and more.
- My work as a songwriter, recording artist, vocalist and vocal recording engineer & producer has garnered roughly 17+ Million Streams over the past few years.
- My original music and cover songs have been heard on CBS, NBC, PBS and Disney's Freeform Television.
Question: Cool, so what does this mean about your style of teaching?
Answer: Glad you asked.
1. I am most interested in your personal, authentic style and making sure you are accessing YOUR voice in the most healthy way possible. Singing is a full body and mind activity and I like to take a comprehensive approach, teaching concepts that you can take with you into other areas of life. Many students want to "have better intonation", "sing more on key" or "sing more freely" and YES YES YES LET's definitely do that! Just not solely with ear training tricks and repetitive scales.
2. I'm best suited for students who prefer to sing modern and contemporary music or craft their own songs. I am also a great resource for recording studio-prep work.
3. As a working recording artist, I bring real-life experience into my coaching with a strong understanding of the modern music world.
While I've performed musical theater and classical music, there are more specialized coaches better equipped for those genres.
Progress! Results. Transformation. All of these things can happen and not just with a student's voice but with their entire being. Seeing a student walk out of my studio happy, confident and enthusiastic about sharing their talent with the world is the most incredible feeling.
Summer of 2006! Members of my community both at home and at University began asking me if I could give them voice lessons after hearing me sing at events. I was coaching my college acapella group while taking many lessons for myself and I felt confident enough to provide training to others. I taught lessons on and off for the next ten years, in between going to school and touring with various musical acts. It has since become a consistent profession that I love with all my heart!

I like to first have a conversation with new students about their goals, what energizes them, what excites them about taking voice lessons and what might scare them about taking lessons. We get to know each other and I get to know their voice. We spend the first half of our lesson on exercises and the second half on songwork so the student can apply what they've learned. Everyone is different, so every lesson is different.
Ages 5+, students of all types! Including but limited to students who are:
preparing for auditions
preparing to record in the studio
simply want to get better and have always dreamed of taking lessons!
For the younger students, we mostly work on performance and confidence!
Have a conversation first. It is an investment for both people! Singing is a personal and emotional activity that can make students feel vulnerable. The flip side of that vulnerability is power and excitement! Once you can harness it, you are unstoppable.
You should feel comfortable with who you work with because singing is not just working on scales and tricks to help you "reach" notes. It is a full body and mind experience, when done right!
Every time I see a student have an "AHA!" moment, or when they work up the courage to post a video or book a first gig. The most recent time was January 2020, when my student nailed a vocal exercise he had been working on with me for over 4 months straight. It was an exercise that *seems* so "easy" but as we all find out with anything worth achieving.. it is not! Through improving on this one exercise, we were able to help him apply this new skill to his song-work. He was singing more freely and authentically and he said singing his song felt like "flying". It was a beautiful moment - we were so excited. He ended up posting a video of his song on instagram and his family and friends were absolutely FLOORED.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do they want out of lessons? Is there anything coming up that they are working towards? Are they working within a budget set asides for various different types of training.. like acting or dancing or piano lessons? What is a reasonable and realistic goal for us both to have for you?
