About Anne
My students thrive because they have fun learning to sing and they sing beautifully and learn healthy singing technique and how to perform well on stage.
I love bringing joy to others.
I started teaching while I was in school working on my Bachelor's degree and have never not taught, as there has always been someone who wanted to learn.
I became a more serious teacher when I decided to not perform and instead share my knowledge exclusively. Then I became even more interested and studied more about how to improve as a teacher. My current students benefit now from my experience.
My Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from UC Irvine was a great education. I studied with Nina Ninson, professor emeritus and NATS member. She instilled in me my love of singing and teaching healthfully and beautifully and I am happy to share it with others.
I was so inspired by my students at Opus 1 Music Studio that I decided to study more and am working towards my Masters of Music degree in Vocal Pedagogy at Holy Names University.
I am a member of NATS and MTAC. I read to stay connected on what's current in Voice learning and instruction. My students benefit from my ongoing self-education.

Singing requires the whole person, not just the voice. I like to know about students' backgrounds and interests as well as health concerns before starting to take on a committed student. That way we will work better together, as a team, to build the voice and shape musicality and development.
This can be done via email or in the lesson.
But singing is all about singing so I like to hear the voice in the first lesson and get a sense of both where it is now and what it has the potential to become. I like students to bring a song they enjoy singing or come prepared to sing "Happy Birthday" a capella.
I've worked with groups of students, young students (4-5 years), adult and mature adult studnets, as well as students of diverse ethnicities and orientations. I work with students who already can sing opera and students who can't match pitch.
My studio is about people who want to sing because they love music and singing and want to improve. I beleive everyone can and should be given tools on how to make that happen.
A voice teacher is a guide and needs to be knowledgable but also someone that you can trust and enjoy working with. Don't settle for someone who isn't the right fit. There are lots of us out there so find someone who really has what you're looking for.
I am proud of my students when they practice their songs in lesson and perform them in public.
I am fond of sharing in my students' performances and celebrating their success.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Ask yourself what you want to sing. Where do you want to be singing in 6 months or a year. How are you going to practice and are you willing to help get yourself to that place.

Annie has a very gentle way of teaching my child that is much appreciated. She has high standards and I feel her instruction has been invaluable in helping improve my child's singing technique and self-confidence.

Anne is an excellent instructor! She's very kind and positive with our 9 year old daughter, but she's also firm about what things are important. Our daughter loves musical theater, and her director could tell that she's been improving quite a bit since starting lessons with Anne.

Details
I charge monthly lessons, payable by cash or check.
45 minute lessons are $60 and are recommended for young students (6-10 years old)
Hour lessons are $80 and I recommend these for advanced junior high through adults. (Anyone working for performance, auditions, and/or competiton and not just fun/warm-ups.)
There is an additional fee for travel to students' homes of $20/month.
